What's today? Really? I didn't notice.
We celebrated Halloween by hiding out in the apartment watching 'The Munsters' marathon on WGN. Just another night.

good riddance
This whole week, I have been training the teacher that will replace me starting next week.
I am having sorda a hard time sitting in the room waiting for her to take charge, call on kids that cause trouble- I can tell she's not had much experience. She hasn't even accomplished the task of 'scanning' the room while doing something else. That's elementary. So while she's changing diapers (which she has no to little experience in as well- she does and redoes the diaper three or four times trying to get it right and it still falls off their bottoms), she is focused on that kid, that task and everyone else in the room is dumping toys out, climbing on the shelves, taking other kids toys, etc. so I'm still having to call down everyone which I shouldn't be doing this far along in the week.
So I left and hid out in the kitchen, slicing apples for Diane, the cook.
Before I left, Michelle asked me what I wanted to do tomorrow (in regards of letting the new teacher take over) and all I could think of was "be invisible?" Hopefully she got my hint. That and earlier this week, I asked her if I could help her out on Friday, doing things around the school instead of being in the room with the newbie. For her benefit and my sanity.
But regardless of what happens tomorrow, it's my last day. IT'S MY LAST DAY! I'm not going back, despite Michelle's pitiful idea that I'm only a call away in case the newbie needs my help. Um, no thanks. Not answering that phone call.
I quit for a reason, that reason being-
I HATE DAYCARE! so when I walk out that door tomorrow afternoon, it's peace out, home-fries.

Come ON Now!
Do you know what it's like to live 50 feet from a train?
Do you, DO YOU?
Let me fill ya in a little, shall I?
Every thirty minutes or so, while you're dreaming sweet dreams of wheatfields being blown in the wind, or the beach sand between your toes with the sun warming your face,
an earthquake vibrates and rattles your window, and shakes your bed,
while a rocketship in all its glory leaves base from your bedroom.
Every thirty minutes. Every single night.
Think about it...

Danessa in a nutshell
This is what the "personality expert" spit out about me, which is pretty much on the nose, so if you didn't know me before, you will now:
You are fun, spontaneous, clever and interesting. People like to be around you because of your easygoing nature.
You like to wake up each morning without a plan and see where the day takes you, hopefully on some safe but relatively exciting adventure.
You excel in composition. You know what looks good together, what sounds good together, and what smells or tastes go together. This comes from a higher than normal tuned in attention to slight variations in color, texture, tone, and flavor.
You like to see everyone living harmoniously and can get irritated by whoever is currently rocking the boat and causing problems.
When faced with a problem you are most likely to solve it in the most obvious way, not implementing cumbersome standard methods or finding what is “socially acceptable” first.
Most people you interact with do not really know you. This is partially because of your reserved nature (you don’t tell them much), partially because most other types are less reserved (they spend too much time talking and not enough asking about you), and partially because you accept people the way they are (you don’t feel much of a need to correct and evaluate others, so people don’t realize how you think differently).
In fact, you have more interest in expressing yourself physically, through song, dance, or actions, than verbally, and you may give up too quickly when someone asks for a verbal explanation of your thoughts.
You prefer hands-on practical work. You may tolerate other types of work, but you’re never happier than when you’re building, fixing or creating something you can see, touch, taste or hear. You prefer work which is not fixed to a procedure, but which may, at any time, take an entirely new direction if the impulse hits you.
As a parent or leader you are non-directive, preferring to see what happens on its own rather than lay down strict procedures and give orders. To you it is understood that any procedures developed by necessity today disappear tomorrow unless they are still absolutely required.
If you do become difficult or cranky it is usually a result of someone else trying to impose some rule or boundary upon you personally, although your discomfort is almost always short lived and relatively painless for all involved.

down to business
two issues of discussion tonight.
one- my last-of-the-year resolution
two- the pulling sensation towards particular strangers
my resolution, even though it's not the new year, is to look at Corey when he is talking. i want to show him more than i do that i listen and that i am interested in everything he says. i of course do listen and am interested, but sometimes i don't think he thinks that. and i want him to know that i care about even the little things he talks to me about. i will stop what i'm doing, whether it be bloggin', emailin', readin', cleanin', drawin', watchin' tv, i will stop and focus on him and his words. my husband and best friend should know and physically see that i respect him and value him, and focusing on him as he talks to me is a just small way to demonstrate that. i love you, babe.
i have these feelings fairly often and have had them for most of my life.
there are sometimes certain people in a given crowd (mainly restaraunts) that i feel particularly pulled towards. it's hard to explain. for some reason, i spot out a person and feel the need to talk to them, to befriend them as if they need to know that there are nice people still left in this world. tonight, it was an elderly man that came in alone and sat at the table across the aisle from us. other times, it's similar to tonight, an elderly person or a single mother or a man that seems unusually sad. these people typically come in alone, sit alone, eat alone, and leave alone. and i don't scan the room searching these people out. they present themselves to me. i can't seem to get my point across- i feel like i'm not making any sense. i don't do this on purpose. some days, there's nothing, no gravitation towards anyone in particular. other days, it's so strong i can hardly focus on anything else. so that leaves me to wonder if it's God trying to tell me, "You know, this person needs a friendly person to lend an ear right now, just in this moment, and you're My vessel."
why else would i get this strong emotion completely from my heart towards complete strangers, passerbys in a common place? and not by anything i do either; like i said, i don't go looking for sad, lonely people i can talk to. they are shown to me. the whole time we are in that place, my mind and heart are drawn to this person, wondering their story, their situation. and i just can't get over it. and i always feel sad and guilty when they leave or we leave and i have not acted on what my heart is telling me.
Is this God?
how do i approach a stranger and start a heart-felt, personal level conversation? "Hey, my name is Danessa. What's your's? Well hello, Robert. I have this feeling you could use a friend right now. Would you like to tell me what's on your mind?" i mean, seriously. if this is God and i am being led to share kindness to a someone like in these situations, how do i do that? Because in most of these situations, i feel heavy hearted, as if i'm taking on their emotions. i physically and literally feel sad and burdened and heavy hearted, so i feel like they need to talk to someone about their problems, or maybe they need someone to take them away from their problems for a couple minutes via a good conversation or a friendly face. but how do you approach a person with that intention without seeming like you're a little on the looney side? and if this is God trying to use me for His purposes, how can i stop letting Him down and take action despite my uncertainity?this whole feeling bothers me a little because i'm just not sure about it. there are so many questions.
i've been living with this gift, or curse, since i was little. i can remember experiencing these heart-wrenching feelings for strangers as a kid and asking mama and daddy questions about them once we got in the car, "did you see that older man across from us?" "i don't remember." "why do you think he was by his'self?" "i don't know." "do you think he was sad?" "i don't know, danessa." "i wonder if he has friends?" "i don't know, danessa." "do you think he lives by his'self?" "danessa, i don't know." and understandably, this was my parents' response; i was a kid, asking ridiculous questions that no one knew the answers to about someone nobody knew or even remembered.
maybe i'm not meant to have conversations with these people. maybe God presents them to me so i can be one more person to send up prayers for them, to feel what they feel long enough to sadden my heart so i will remember them for a while and keep them in my prayers.
or maybe i am meant to befriend them for that moment. to be someone they can just vent to, someone who's not in the situation so can't judge or suggest what to do, only listen and offer sympathy. a momentary friend.
ugh, this whole situation with all its overwhelming emotions are just way over my head.
i just don't know.
something else to pray about i reckon.

boo hoo, i'm sick.
i think it's just a cold but its enough to keep me from sleeping, and enough to be extremely uncomfortable. and laura's coming today. that bums me out. and allison and cayden are coming to cinci this weekend too and i'm not going to that either. don't get me wrong- i really want to, it's not like i get to see our nephew any weekend i want. this would be the second time i'm seen him since he was born a little over a year ago. but i don't want to get him sick. and i wouldn't be much fun- i'm a pretty bad sick person, self-pity and all that. i'm so sad.
well, this weekend just went down the pooper.

dumb
so i almost wrecked the car tonight- twice.
i took a turn too quickly for the wet roads and the stupid rodeo that shouldn't be sold as a functional mode of transportation, and i hydroplaned, overcompensated, overcompensated again, and finally was slowed down enough to have some sense of control.
corey drove home.

cue evil laugh
I pulled a prank tonight on my boss.
She is the worst flower picker-outer in the world so when she bought mums to go outside with the hay and scarecrow for decoration, she of course had bought the ugliest, dullest, deadist flowers at the store. So when I was telling Corey about it, I was joking saying someone should replace them with better ones and play dumb the next day. Well then I decided I would be the dummy. So I bought the prettiest mums at kroger and tonight after dark we went to the daycare, stole the old dead mums and replaced them with the pretty not-dead ones, and at work I'll get a good laugh out of her confusion. Mwahahahahahahahaha! Its a way to be mean, but nice at the same time. A nice little innocent prank.
I love when a plan comes together.

Brown Book Club
I have been a member of this book club for over two years.
It's a family affair so it's very selective as to its joining members.
It is managed from three seperate locations: Moneta, Virginia; Murray, Kentucky; and Sharonville, Ohio.
The three managers of the Brown Book Club collect books (of course), each having bookshelves and display cases and miscellaneous piles of book within their facilities. Once they read a book, they either add it to their own private collection or they share it with other managers and/or members, sometimes close friends or friends of the members. So then the members too begin a collection of their own.
It's endearing, really. Once the older managers pass, select members will become the managers of the club, following in their elders' footsteps, keeping the Brown family book club alive.
A Brown legacy, if you will.

a new hero
Ernie Davis was a commanding football player, one whose talent and grace has yet to be challenged. Career-wise, he did nothing but exceed expectations. As a kid, not yet a teenager, he played his first league football game in the Elmira Small Fry Football League for the Superior Buicks and was named a Small Fry All-Star in 1952 and 1953. At Elmira Free Academy, where he attended high school, he was named Elmira Player of the Year and high school All-American in both his junior and senior years. After high school, he attended Syracuse University with a scholarship to play football under Coach Ben Schwartzwalder, where he played all four years as #44, the former jersey number of the legendary Jim Brown. During these four years, Ernie Davis made history. Not only did he gain national fame for three seasons (1959-1961), but he also won the first-team All-American honors, twice. To take it a thousand steps further, Davis led Syracuse to their first national championship victory, the NCAA Division I-A national football championship playing against The University of Texas Longhorns (ranked 2nd) in the Cotton Bowl. That same year, Elmira Star-Gazette sports writer Al Mallette coined the nickname for Davis, the "Elmira Express". Davis was voted Most Valuable Player of the 1960 Cotton Bowl and the 1961 Liberty Bowl.
Davis became the first black athlete to be awarded the Heisman Trophy, following his 1961 senior-year season at Syracuse.
Davis was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1979.
Davis was the number-one pick in the 1962 NFL Draft, becoming the first black football player to be taken first overall. He signed with the Cleveland Browns as #45, to play alongside his friend and mentor Jim Brown.
However, the Cleveland Browns' dream of pairing Ernie with Jim in the backfield took a tragic turn when Ernie was diagnosed with leukemia in 1962.
He never got the chance to play professional football; his only appearance at Cleveland Stadium was during a 1962 pre-season game, in which he ran onto the field followed by a spotlight, waving to his fans, as he was recognized and honored by his teammates.
He died the following year at age 23.
He was mourned by over 10,000 people at his wake, and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY. Following his death, the Browns' retired his number 45 jersey.
But Ernie Davis didn't just play football. He played football during a time when all people were not equal, when public places were still segregated, and there were threats and extreme violence towards black people. He had to fight not only his opposing team at each game, but on and off the field, he had to fight society and the cruelty of the people living in it. So I say again,
Ernie Davis didn't just play football; he made history.

fleeting friendships
I get through most days without thinking of you, by force and so most days I don't miss you.
It's been 3 months since you left and I still can't let myself think of you being gone.
I cried tonight when I accidently came across a picture of you.
I miss you so much. So so much.
I cried tonight when I accidently came across a picture of you.
I miss you so much. So so much.
drama, drama, drama
I went back to the dentist today. That would make it 3 weeks in a row, not counting the times before. My bite has changed and my right back teeth (the root canal side) were touching before any of the others and making it impossible to close my teeth together all the way. So I went back today and they filed away at it some. It helped a lot and they didn't charge me. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I made a joke when she first came in the waiting room to get me (they don't call my name anymore, just stand in the doorway or when I sign in, they say 'just come on back'); I told her I just missed her so much I had to come back and see her. Her and Dr. Revel got a kick out of that.
I plan on going home sometime in November Lord willin' for a nice break from work and wilmore, but to also see my orthodontist from years back about getting my retainer refitted, for two reasons: one- my bite, even after today's dentist visit, is still not quite right so I think my teeth have shifted slightly. (I also think that has to do with my wisdom teeth starting to become more apparent.) and two- I have two cousins who throughout their pregnancy, their teeth became what I call 'jacked up' again and needed braces a second time. So I'm wanting to avoid that altogether by wearing a retainer throughout my pregnancy. I'm not doing braces again. No way. Plus I have now experienced the dark side of not wearing one and the freakout that happens when you discover you teeth have in fact moved. It's not fun.
After a couple tries of communicating to realtors in Roanoke with no avail, I have been talking to one, Richard, who is willing to help. He has been virtually showing us a house, and is currently getting together pictures of another house he thought would suite us better, one that's not even listed yet. I thank him each time we talk for his help. I have told him that it is so nice to be talking to someone over there; that alone gives me peace. So now it feels that the ball is officially rolling.
On a lighter note, Corey found an undesignated Joseph-Beth gift card for $50 in a book he bought a couple weeks ago. Sunday, he took me there and let me pick out a couple books I wanted. :)
I got "Mr. Darcy's Diary" which Hopie, I am bringing you to read in November, and "The Wednesday Letter's". I read the Diary in about 2 days. It was excellent. I wondered about his attitude and motives in the movie and so this book was an eye opener. I loved being able to get into his head. I of course followed it with the movie. Ah, the better it was. I start the Letters tomorrow.
I've become such a huge bookworm.

i bought my first friggin' pair of sweatpants today! in celebration of surviving my first root canal! it's over! now on december 1, i have to go get a crown. but compared to the root canal, that'll be a piece of delicious, ooey gooey pie!
Yey for
at the same time as my sweatpants, i bought hot chocolate (which now makes me miss you, Laura) and tomato soup because IT'S COLD! the high today was 64. it was cold compared to yesterday or the day before. i'm still happy though because i get to drink hot chocolate now.
i've really come to love hot chocolate. i think it's because i had a girl friend once who was in love with it and seeing that just made me appreciate my relationship with hot chocolate even more. Laura!
Yey for
