crazy wonderful

We have a very busy, exciting weekend this weekend.
Tonight, we had over our great friends, John and Theresa, who were our first friends here in Roanoke. As of late, they have switched churches so we don't see them anymore and we miss them a lot. One of my first posts after we moved was about the Netzels and how they are so wonderful to us. Anyway, they came over for a visit tonight, we ordered pizza and talked so much. They are always so interested in how our lives are going that we get a lot of talking done in a given hour. We love them for being so concerned and so involved in our lives.
Tomorrow, my brother and his girlfriend, Stacee, are coming up real early in the morning and hanging out all day. We're really happy Stacee gets to come with him this time. As if that wasn't exciting enough, mama and daddy want to meet us on the Parkway at a place called Mabry Mill, to eat lunch. None of us have ever been there, but mama says she's heard great things. So I get to see so much family tomorrow, and great friends tonight.
I love this weekend.

I got some crazy news for y'all. Simon is teething. At 4 months old, he's trying to cut teeth. I just can't believe it. Some days are better than others, but on the worse days, he's randomly fussy, he runs a little fever, he doesn't want to feed much, and every day, good or bad, he's knawing on everything, his fist and fingers especially. And the drool- good grief. But I put some Orajel on his gums and wha-la, he's fantastic. Ya gotta love the Orajel.

4 months

Simon is rolling over consistently, raising his head up real good. He loves to laugh, but only after he's eaten. Things are so much more funny after his belly is full. Try to make him laugh before food and he stares at you like you've lost your mind. Straight face, "You're an idiot" look.
He is 25.5 inches long and weighs 11 lbs 13 oz. He's definitely a small baby, but we're working on that. We've scheduled more feedings during the day and each feeding now includes milk as well as rice cereal. He's a huge eater, so most of the time, milk is not enough.
Idn't he just so cute though?

Cincinnati trip

We went to Cincinnati this past weekend to hang out with Corey's family. It was the second time they have seen Simon, the first being when he was just a couple weeks old. So everyone was SUPER excited to see him and hug him and all that lovey-dovey stuff. Unfortunately, Simon was not feeling it. When we got there Thursday evening, he had been in his carseat for over 8 hours, with maybe 3 breaks to eat. He didn't eat well, because it was too hot to focus on anything else and we were cramped in the back. So instead of his normal 40-50 minute nursing sessions, he ate for maybe 10 minutes off and on, struggling to get comfortable. Along with a near empty stomach, he had slept maybe 45 minutes the whole 8+ hour trip, when he usually gets 6 hours of sleep through 3 naps during the day. He was surprisingly playful and quiet despite this drastic mess of a day. Until we got to the Barkers and out of the car. He was ready to eat and sleep for the night. He didn't anticipate all the family that wanted to pass him around, kissing him, talking to him, yada yada. He shrieked like never before as soon as I gave him away.
So he was automatically pegged as a screaming, unhappy baby. But once he had ate to his content and slept through the night, and ate when he woke up, he was the happy, smiling, mellow baby that we know and love.
He had a couple of firsts while we were on this trip. It was his first time meeting Auntie Allison and cousin Cayden, Grandmother and Granddad Barker, Aunt Gloria and Michelle, and Garnet. He visited Daddy's hometown church for the first time as well. He had his first Skype experience with Uncle Chris. He had his first taste of banana, he flipped over his car seat toy, Mr. Frog, and he got in a kiddie pool.

On the trip back, he did better. Ate better, slept better, everything better.
Even so, next time,
WE'RE FLYING.

Sunday morning disappointment

I just had a bad experience in church this morning.
We leave Simon in the nursery during worship service. I miss him the whole time, but it's good for him to have others take care of his needs so he learns trust. Anywho, so I realized during service that I had forgot to tell them that he needed to be put down for his nap on his belly, otherwise he screams bloody murder. So I leave service, go to the children's wing, sure that they'll be pulling their hair out because of his shrieking.
I walk in, look around and Simon is not in there. Everyone else is, but not Simon. The girl I left him with sees me looking around and says, "Oh, he's in the other room. He was disturbing the other babies." The other room is two doors away, with nothing in it but extra furniture and supplies. I give her "the stink eye," and hurry into the "other room". Simon, my poor baby, is lying on his back, no blanket, in this dark, what looks like a hardly used storage room, crying. All by himself. No one watching him, or trying to comfort him. I got so mad. Who in their right mind puts a baby down in a room, two doors away, all alone, clearly upset because he's screaming...who?
I pick him up, talk to him a second on our way back to the right room where all the other babies and "caretakers" are, and lay him down in there. I remain in the nursery with him until Corey comes down after service is done. I was not going to leave him again with someone who gives me the impression that she doesn't know what she's doing and would just put him as far away as possible if he cried. And she knew. She knew that this mother was not happy with the situation. She dodged me the rest of the time I was down there.
I'm not going to be one of those mothers that is overprotective and refuses to have someone else care for Simon, so he will go back to the nursery. He will not, however, be given to that girl ever again.
Nobody mistreats Simon or this mama will fight you.

AVON, Plumbing, and RoLLiNg OvEr

I am an official Avon rep. :) I've found a website that has some online jobs, but that's not happening fast enough for us, so I've decided to sell Avon. I've always loved looking at the catalogs; they've got some super cute stuff and its so cheap, so I'm excited to start selling. I hope to make good money from this so I can continue to stay at home with Si. I'm not expecting thousands, but at least a good amount. So anyone that wants Avon, order from me. I'll post my Avon website in a couple of days. Support this stay-at-home mom. :)

Corey is thinking about becoming a plumber. Apparently, it's good money and steady work, unlike his In-home therapist job, though we are talking about him keeping a couple of clients for after-hours so he can still be gaining experience in the field he loves. So we'll see how that pans out. And might I say that Corey is an excellent plumber- he worked on our kitchen sink, taking out the nonfunctional disposal and replacing it with normal pipes. I think he would make an excellent plumber. He still hopes to become the Pastoral Counselor for our church though. We're still holding on to that dream.

Simon is rolling over now and propping himself up on his elbows. He sucks on his thumb and is wanting to experiment with solids already. He's a big, endless eater like his daddy. So every morning, when he's at his hungriest, he has milk and some rice cereal. That starts his day off well. He "mmmm"s after each bite- another thing his daddy used to do as a baby, and still does when the food is just that good. He's on a regular schedule now. He naps for about 2 hours 3x a day, eating after each nap, followed by about 40 minutes of wake time. Then its back down to nap. We have this schedule all day every day. And he sleeps through the night, from about 8 or 830 to about 7. We go back to the doctor this month for another round of shots. That makes me cry to think about- his sad, painful face.
Simon's such a cute kid, so good. We have a fantastic son.
Corey says we make good babies.
I agree.
