vroom vroom

We sold the cougar today after trying to sell it since July I think.
Some people from Padukah? which is 3 hours away, came and looked at it, drove it, and bought it for their 16 year old granddaughter. Her birthday was actually today. So yeah, she got an awesome car on her birthday.
But yey! We don't have to take the cougar to Roanoke! :)
Thanks to Jimmy Crews for finally taking it off our hands.

I will miss the speed.

ten

I can't stand this anymore.
I want a house! I want to pick out rugs and art pieces and window coverings for the family room and the bedroom and the nursery. I can't even look at things like that because I don't know the types of floors we'll have, either they'll be carpeted, and if so, what color? or if they'll be hardwood floors. How can you pick out area rugs without knowing the type of floor?! I can't pick out curtains without knowing what kind and what size windows are in each room. I can't pick out wall decor because I don't know what color rug we'll get because I don't know the floor type.
I gotta get myself out of this stupid small apartment where I can do home projects and hang things on the walls and tile the kitchen floor and paint furniture and walls and doors, and the only escape I have now is to dream up what I would put in a new house, but I can't even do that because I don't know what our new house will need!
I can't stand this anymore!
I thrive on making a house a home, making a place we wanna come home to, making it a comfort zone, a safe haven, making it bring out our personalities by decorating, accessorizing, rearranging, building, and I can't do that. I haven't been able to do that in 2 years! I can't even rearrange a room because each room is structured for furniture to be set up a certain way. It's a freakin' shell that I can't do anything with because it's not ours! It's not a home! It's a shell!
I'm going crazy. I can't even enjoy dreaming up the plans for a new house because WE DON'T HAVE A HOUSE! and we move December 15th.
This sucks. This apartment sucks! My job sucks! This town sucks! And I have to stay in this stupid apartment for another 2 months, in this stupid town for another 2 months, without any friends because they've all got to leave because of better jobs, better schooling, better anything!
I wanna move on to the next stage of our life. I just wanna go.

A Final Update

We just received a letter from Yi-Jien's mother and wife.

This is a section from his mother's letter:

Dear All,
We are sorry to keep you all waiting for so many days since Sept 19. We had decided to wait till the weekend before we make our final decision. Since there is still no news of Yi Jien, we have decided to end our waiting and move on from here. We cannot fathom at this point God's purposes . . . it had seemed that all things were pointing to His bringing out Yi Jien . . but since it has not come to pass, we will move on, still continuing to trust that He is our God who loves us and that His will is always good, pleasing and perfect (Romans 12:2b) even though it may not appear so at the moment. Perhaps we had misread Him . .we do not know . . but we do know that we have always experienced Him as a good and faithful God and we will continue to trust that He is all that His Word says He is.

And this is from Siu Yin:

My dear family and friends,
I am writing this with deep pain and sorrow that we have finished waiting and there is still no news of Yi-Jien. We went to the park around noon with Yi-Jien’s brother today and the weather was very cold – snow and rain. The cloud was so thick that we could not even see the trail next to the parking lot. I was kind of saying goodbye to Yi-Jien and trust he is fully in God’s love. Though sometimes I like to think he is still alive and will walk out one day, I am trying to move on. Thus we decided to leave tomorrow and drive down to San Francisco to visit my niece and try to tie up some loose ends there. Then I will follow my mother in law to go back to Malaysia. I probably will stay in Malaysia for a while and seek God’s direction for next step before I go back to Hong Kong. Sorry my Hong Kong friends that I am not able to go back to Hong Kong. Please continue to stand together with prayers.
I want to give my heartfelt thank you for your different kinds of support in the past few weeks waiting for Yi-Jien. I do not think we can wait that long without all your love and care through prayers. Though my mother in law and I are now confused with many questions to God and do not seem to get any answer, we are willing to put our trust in the Lord that His way is higher than our way and His thought is higher than our thought. It does not mean my pain is less but I can go through my pain with hope in the Lord that Yi-Jien is in His arm. Yet I do need your continuous prayer for what to do next as the song “I will sing” – It’s hard for me to pray, I really don’t know what to say, yet I will still choose to sing praises to the Lord for He is “I Am Who I Am”. It is very hard but once I choose to worship Him, it frees my heart.
Love you all very much,
Siu Yin

We are still praying for Yi-Jien, Siu Yin, and the rest of the family. But saddened by their letter.

wanna walk in my shoes? ya sure?

(first off, a note to hope- it's been 3 friggin' months! blog for pete's sake!!)

the kids were demons today. absolute demons. and the supposed-to-be adults that i work with were kids today and remember, kids=demons!
so by my lunch break at 1, i had had enough. wanted to get far away from the daycare, wilmore, kentucky while we're at it.
i go out to the car, and corey's sitting there. i tell him about my terrible day and he says, "well it's good that your day is getting better after this. this trip to disney world will make you feel better." our trip to disney world was interrupted by a quick stop by the dentist to get a root canal.
but only half of one. apparently only specialists can take out all 4 canals at once. dentists do it two at a time. so lucky me gets to go back next week and do this all over again.
let's recap what THE CRAP happened at the dentist today.
we get there at my appointment time, 1:30 and i'm numb by 2:00. She drills through my filling/tooth most of the way through when i tell her i can feel pain. so she numbs me again and we wait another length of time and start again. then with a crack, something flys out of my mouth and both the dentist and the assistant gasp. they say, 'good thing you told us to numb you again because we just broke through to the gumline fairly quickly and you woulda been screaming bloody murder.' she then, after rinsing and who knows what else the inside of my tooth and gum, she gets files, that's right! in four different sizes!, and files either the inside of my tooth or my gum, i couldn't really tell, but she files something at the speed the professionals file your nails. OH YEAH!, the files that were grinding against...something, those files have needles on the end, the end that repeatedly goes through the skin of my gum with each file she makes. i can definately feel that. over and over and over. and because of all these needles going into my gum, they of course are puncturing the absess that was forming inside my gumline which is oozing- lets just say the peroxide went in white and watery and came out gray and thick. yeah, mud. corey likes to say i had mud in my brain. it was disgusting. so we take a break to take an xray to see how far we've come, how far we've progressed, and they bring corey back so i can have him pet me a little bit, while the xray comes out and while the fluid drains. after another bagillion years, corey goes back to the waiting room and the poking and filing begins again. but i can feel it. so i get shot again. and we wait again. and the poking begins again. a little too soon. so it hurts and we stop again and wait a couple more minutes. then she files and pokes a few more minutes and finally cleans my now gigantic bleeding hole out, stuffs it with cotton covered in medicine and seals the opening with putty. with one more shot to the cheek, i'm out the door.
i'm out the door at 4 freakin' o'clock. i was lying in the chair being tortured for 2 and a half hours!
and i get to go to disney world again next wednesday.
give me a freakin' cookie!!

Can It Be?

In just the past couple hours, I have found a house, a job, and a dog.
Can it be that easy?

I searched, as every time before, a house to rent in Northwest City of Roanoke, and unlike before where 'no rentals [are] available', one solitary house came up. Brick, 4 bdrm, 1.5 ba, fenced bkyrd, pet friendly, within a decent price range. I of course put in an inquiry to the realtor.

I then, again, as usual, search jobs available in Roanoke. I've been throwing around the idea of working in an art museum. And again, unlike before when no jobs came up after searching the keyword 'museum', one solitary job came up, the Taubman Museum of Art in downtown Roanoke. It opens its door to the public in November and is hiring for several positions.

I then, again, as usual, search pets in local animal/rescue shelters in Roanoke. We are wanting one as soon as we move there. Most of the labs we search are black labs. We found Milo, a chocolate lab, just like the one we want. We've put in a request to sponsor him until we can adopt.

Again I ask, Can It Be That Easy?

Please pray these things fall more into place for us. We do move in less than two months.

stupid teeth!

SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!
I just got comfortable with the idea of having a root canal but now all my back teeth are hurting. Dentist have been telling me to get my wisdom teeth cut out, but normal people have always said to wait till they actually start bothering you before you go through that crap, because some people can go through their whole life with no problems from their wisdom teeth. Well, the time has come. Of course.
I go in two months ago for a filling. That filling puts a crack in my tooth. That crack causes an absess in my gum around the root. That absess requires a root canal and a crown. After all that, I will have to go back AGAIN to get these wisdom teeth cut out.
What the freak is going on?!
This sucks.
As you may have already read, I hate the dentist. I think my exact quote was "Sending me to the dentist is like locking me in a room with anti-feminists wearing masks."
So of course when I get used to the idea of calling in for an appointment for a friggin' root canal which scares the poop outta me, I have to tell them when I go in that I'll be needing another appointment for my wisdom teeth.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH! and
GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

it's a sad day for the Penny's

Us Barker's are saying little prayer for the Penny's who have lost their hedgehog as of this morning.
Poor Tov had got his feet burned by hot water a couple of weeks ago. Leanne thinks he just couldn't deal with the trauma.
Those Penny's loved that hedgehog and when I joined Leanne in a walk this afternoon, she was missing him something terrible.
We will miss that little guy too, and pray that Kel and Leanne find peace with his passing.
